Kiowa County Commissioners Meeting
Courthouse Lower Level Conference Room
August 26, 2019
Bert Lowery, John Bertram, Ronald Freeman, Kristi Cooper, Chay Howard, Jay Schmidt, Spencer Jenkins, Stacey Barnes, DJ McMurry and Matt Christenson attended the meeting.
After the pledge of allegiance John called the Special meeting to order at 9:00.
Spencer Jenkins with Next Era Energy Resources came to discuss the potential of a wind farm coming to Kiowa County. He explained their company is interested in pursing the project for Kiowa County and that they will start the beginning stages by contacting potential landowners who would allow them to put them on their ground. He will be in contact as the project hopefully progresses.
Chay Howard came present the job description for the Legal Assistant/Community Service Director for his office for approval. After review of the job description Bert moved to approve the job description as presented and to be added to the current pay plan and John seconded, motion carried 3-0. Next, he informed that he had researched their request from the last meeting regarding City of Mullinville and covering the cost of the overlay project till the following year. And it was his opinion he advised them that he was against this and that the City should either apply for a bond for the project or work out payment details with Heft and Sons. Jay added to the discussion that he would like to see the project to be completed all at the same time and explained the concerns he had with the stability of the overlay for their portion of the project. Jay informed them that the project is scheduled for this fall and Bert suggested to talk with Steve and see if they could push back the project start date and if so, that would allow the City of Mullinville to be able to fund the project. Jay will talk with Steve and report back at the next meeting.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:04.
